Public Speaking & Debate Camp

Our Summer Public Speaking & Debate Camps for High School and Middle School students teaches the key processes of public speaking and effective argumentation, enabling students to develop core presentation and debating skills that boost confidence and self-esteem. We work on debate case construction, composing briefs, research, rebuttals, cross-fire, evidence analysis, and summary and final focus. Students leave the academic camp with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience needed to excel in life.

Campus Information

Location Highlights

Residential students will reside on campus in the dormitories and share a room with another student. Each dorm room contains two beds, two desks with bookshelves, two desk chairs and two wardrobes with drawers. All campers will be dining on campus in the dining commons, which will have a variety of choices for each meal.

Campers attending St. Edward’s University will be visiting the The Bullock Museum & IMAX for their fun outting day during the first week. Students will have a chance to explore the museum and view a film in the IMAX theater.

Fun Outing Field Trip | 5th Day of Camp

About one-third of the way through camp students will have the opportunity to enjoy a trip off campus. This is an excellent opportunity for students to connect with their peers and counselors outside of the walls of the school. Students will have a chance to take this trip at their own pace since there’s something for everyone.

Cancellation Policy: All payments are nonrefundable. Should cancellation be necessary, full credit will be provided up to 1 year from the date of the event, if written notice of cancellation is provided prior to May 1st for camps and at least two weeks for other programs. Any add-ons, tournament or fees paid cannot be refunded and are non-transferrable. Summer camp cancellations received after May 1st or programs cancellations after two weeks prior to program starting must also be made in writing and will follow the below schedule for applicable credit to your account.
    Camp cancellation credit timetable:
  • After May 1 | 85% credit
  • 30 - 22 days before start date | 70% credit
  • 21 - 8 days before start date | 60% credit
  • 7 - 4 days before start date | 50% credit
  • 3 - 1 day before start date | 25% credit
  • No Show | 0 credit
    Other programs cancellation credit timetable:
  • Two weeks before program start | 100% credit
  • Within two weeks before program start | 50% credit
  • Day of or No Show | 0% credit
