2021 PUBLIC SPEAKING CAMPS FOR 9 AND 10 YEAR OLDS

Capitol Debate's Public Speaking and Debate Camps provide a transformative experience for students looking to enhance their communication and debating skills. They become more confident, self-assured, and develop critical thinking, logical reasoning, and refutation skills, allowing them to succeed in any setting. Tailored to each child's level, the camp provides a safe and challenging environment for growth, helping students find their voice and become more persuasive, empowered to make positive change.

Ages (as of date of camp): 11-17

Capitol Debate is proud to introduce our robust Virtual Summer Camps. The program runs from 11:00 a.m. EST to 5 PM EST for all students (West Coast students start at 8 a.m. PST). We were a pioneer back in 2012 in launching the first national online educational platform to teach public speaking and debate. Since then, thousands of students have crossed our screens and have gone on to be successful public speakers and debaters. Both in response to the current situation with COVID-19 and the trend toward virtual education, Capitol Debate is fully prepared to offer summer camps virtually. With 8 years of extensive online teaching experience, we have coached many national debate champions and seen amazing transformations in students' confidence and presentation skills.

See for Yourself the Impact of Our Summer Camps!

Not only will Capitol Debate students learn new skills through our programs; they will feel an increase in self-worth, learn critical thinking skills and improve public speaking and communication skills with their peers. Two weeks at camp will result in lifelong friendships and memories that will resonate with our students throughout their academic, personal and professional careers. Campers return to our program year after year because of how life-changing our Summer Debate Camps prove to be. Our parents will tell you themselves that they proudly stand by their investment in Capitol Debate because of the impact it has had on their families.

Convenient Locations

Capitol Debate’s academic summer camps are spread across the United States, from East to West as well as internationally. With such a large number of location available you're bound to find the perfect camp location for you.

  • Low faculty to student ratio – Capitol Debate firmly believes in individualized instruction, which can only happen with small class sizes.
  • Personalized Instruction – Capitol Debate instructors give students hands-on instruction with researching, writing, speaking and organizing. After practice debates, instructors give students lengthy feedback to help them improve their skills.
  • Senior faculty oversee all classes – Unlike other debate camps, Capitol Debate’s instructors have an average of 15 to 30 years of pedagogical experience in the classroom. Many have coached national champions!
  • Practice, Practice, Practice – We make sure students are not just sitting in lectures, but instead are getting up and speaking every day and applying the lessons learned in a small group setting.

Leading Curriculum

At some point in everyone’s life, at any age, students will be required to deliver a presentation or speak in front of an audience. Capitol Debate’s Virtual Public Speaking Camp prepares students to become powerful, confident speakers and great communicators. Through daily, interactive practice, students will refine their communication skills and become confident in their ability to speak in class. Our highly-trained public speaking instructors will provide guidance and feedback every step of the way. By the end of the camp, students are self-assured in their public speaking skills and, most importantly, are empowered to use their voice to become advocates for issues that are important to them and their communities.

The camp introduces students to style (eye contact, articulation, voice, hand gestures, and confidence). Students will deliver a famous speech in history at the end of camp.  During week 2, students will learn how to write their own speech. Students will present an informative speech they have written at the end of camp.
