Communication skills are the most important skill necessary for success. Capitol Debate curriculum is focused on the whole student speaker and not JUST competitive debate It is a very good mix of public speaking and debating.
The students that are adamant in coming, will find themselves empowered when they learn what they can do with their voice.
The middle school camp was an excellent introduction to debate. The staff, programming, and college campus facilities were top notch. As a parent, I also appreciated the great ethnic and geographic diversity of the students.
The best camp you could ever ask for, ranging from education to fun, you will NOT want to go home!
From the point of view of a parent I would strongly suggest Capitol Debate as a definite option.
It is not the subject of the camp, but the people who make it up. It is not how we change the camp that makes it better, but how the camp changes us. It is not one side, but a symbiosis of student and staff that is optimally shown at Capitol Debate. Thank you, Rider 2017, for how you changed me.
I made a lot of friends and learned how to debate! I never felt uncomfortable and everyone was really welcoming! I can't wait for next summer!!
More than any other camp I have been at, the bonds that were made at UNC Chapel Hill this year were the most obvious. It was impossible for me not to cry at the closing ceremony because of how close we had all become.
The environment at camp is welcoming and you will certainly feel at home here in Capitol Debate.
Capitol Debate has just the right amount of fun and learning; even class can be entertaining and it is filled with education and debates. The teachers are very thorough and the residential staff members are caring and fun.
