Capitol Debate was my first debate experience and I think it provided a great gateway to my future debate career. The activities were great, the community was great, the material was great, the residential provisions were great, everything was solid in general. 10/10 would go again.
Not only is the debate experience exceptional, the community of self-aware, intelligent teens instilled an optimistic hope for my generation.
I didn't realize how much I would miss this camp until I left on the last day. Truly amazing. Everything. I learned so much from this camp, and not just about debate. The instructors were dedicated and fun. I made so, so many friends here. I learned how to work with others, to communicate effectively, and so much more. This camp was a valuable experience.
I think that Capitol Debate has helped me be a better public speaker and learn more about PF debate. My favorite part was the gym nights and relay races because I got to know other people better. I am definitely coming back next year.
I have improved so much from the beginning of this camp to the end of this camp. As I was talking to my parents on the phone, they too noticed a massive difference. In one of our conversations they asked, "who are you? Its like you're a new person!" This was because after this camp, I was eager to research and learn about many topics.
At Capitol Debate Seton Hall, I was included and I wasn't left out. So many people there were kind and they took chances on strangers. It taught me to take a chance on strangers, to befriend as many people as I can, even if I'm in a competitive environment. It taught me to never let my negative judgements decide who I should befriend and who I should ignore.
I was amazed by the amount of knowledge my son gained during the two-week camp. This was his first experience of learning and actually practicing debate, and I think now he has solid knowledge of what a public forum debate is and how to search for evidence to support his argument.
It was a great experience for me. I got to learn countless things while also having fun. My instructor was one of the best teachers I've ever had, and I learned a lot from him. I felt really close to my labmates and all of them were really happy for me when I won. I honestly loved this camp, and will 100% come back next year.
Working at Capitol Debate is every teacher's dream: Teaching relevant, fun material to students eager to learn. It's a wonderful experience for everyone involved.
Capitol debate let me develop my skills in not only the debate we were working with, but hollistically and to the point where I flourished in all sorts of events!
