Teaching public speaking, persuasion, presentation skills and confidence through the art of debate
Marymount University is a beautiful campus nestled right outside of our nation's capitol. The campus was located on the former estate of Admiral Presley Marion Rixey, Naval Surgeon General and personal physician to Presidents Theodore Roosevelt and William McKinley. In October 2010, Marymount celebrated its 60th anniversary with the grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony for Caruthers Hall, an academic facility focused on the sciences and health sciences, and Rose Bente Lee Ostapenko Hall, a residence hall providing apartment-style housing for 239 students.
At our Public Speaking and Debate Camp level, middle school and high school students will learn the fundamentals of public speaking and argumentation, enabling them to develop core presentation and debating skills that boost confidence and self-esteem. Not only will Capitol Debate students learn new skills through our programs; they will feel an increase in self-worth, learn critical thinking skills and improve public speaking and communication skills with their peers. Two weeks at camp will result in lifelong friendships and memories that will resonate with our students throughout their academic, personal and professional careers. Campers return to our program year after year because of how life-changing our Summer Debate Camps prove to be. Our parents will tell you themselves that they proudly stand by their investment in Capitol Debate because of the impact it has had on their families.
It is worth it to give the kids a try and to have them experience the new camp, it will benefit them a lot and they will love it. My daughter loves it so much and she did learn something new to her which helps her a lot when she starts to get into high school this year. Because they can learn not only debate skills, but they built up great relationships with the coaches and other students.
The advent of the debate experience reaches it's zenith only under a Capitol debate experience, making experienced learning, street smart instinct, and Debate brinkmanship achievable under capable leadership.
I don't think about people judging me anymore, I feel like I've become more open. For example I don't mind going up and signing horribly for a crowd anymore. Who cares what they think as long as I'm having fun. I understand that now.
Capitol Debate has helped me to succeed in public speaking and debate skills in general. I have become more comfortable in front of a crowd
From the point of view of a parent I would strongly suggest Capitol Debate as a definite option.
Capitol debate summer camp if your child is interested in fun learning and wanting to polish their public speaking and debate skills
It has given me new insights into debating and has set a base for my debating career.
Capitol debate has helped me find my voice in the world and has had me complete my personal goal while stretching far and beyond what my goal was. The staff there was awesome and the lectures made a lot of sense, and they gave us some pretty good advice for the debates. I know I've made some life time friends and hope to see them next year. It was an awesome year! Thanks Capitol Debate!
Allowing your child to attend this camp is life changing in a very good way!
It is not the subject of the camp, but the people who make it up. It is not how we change the camp that makes it better, but how the camp changes us. It is not one side, but a symbiosis of student and staff that is optimally shown at Capitol Debate. Thank you, Rider 2017, for how you changed me.
