2022 PUBLIC SPEAKING AND DEBATE CAMP

Loyola University's Columbia Graduate Center hosts our longest-running day camp program. The campus is the location for many of the University's graduate programs, including its Masters of Business Administration. It is situated in an industrial park, close to a local church, numerous restaurants, financial institutions, and technology companies. The Columbia Graduate Center sits directly beside a beautiful pond, which is visible from many of the classrooms and conference rooms. In 1949, Loyola grew beyond undergraduate studies and formed a graduate division. The graduate school now includes programs in arts & sciences, education, and business. It has grown to over 2500 post-graduate students, split between the Timonium Campus and the Columbia Campus.

Grades Accepted (for 2022-23 school year):  Rising 6th through Rising 9th grade students.

  • Low faculty to student ratio – Capitol Debate firmly believes in individualized instruction, which can only happen with small class sizes.
  • Personalized Instruction – Capitol Debate instructors give students hands-on instruction with researching, writing, speaking and organizing. After practice debates, instructors give students lengthy feedback to help them improve their skills.
  • Senior faculty oversee all classes – Unlike other debate camps, Capitol Debate’s instructors have an average of 15 to 30 years of pedagogical experience in the classroom. Many have coached national champions!
  • Practice, Practice, Practice – We make sure students are not just sitting in lectures, but instead are getting up and speaking every day and applying the lessons learned in a small group setting.
