Two weeks at camp will result in lifelong friendships and memories that will resonate with our students throughout their academic, personal and professional careers.

Campers return to our program year after year because of how life-changing our Summer Debate Camps prove to be. Our parents will tell you themselves that they proudly stand by their investment in Capitol Debate because of the impact it has had on their families. Campus Information

History, technology, beautiful landscapes are abundant at one of Capitol Debate’s new summer camp locations, San Jose State University.

SJSU is conveniently located on more than 150 acres in downtown San José, midway between San Francisco and the Monterey/Carmel area. Situated near the Bay area and in the heart of Silicon Valley, San Jose is home to some of the world’s largest, most admired businesses, while also offering a central location close to everything northern California has to offer, from mountain peaks and beautiful bays to thriving vineyards and historic landmarks.

The oldest public school of higher education in California, SJSU was designed in the Spanish Revival style with influences from Gothic, Renaissance Revival, and Modern, reflecting the rich diversity found in San Jose.

San Jose State is easily accessible from freeways and three major airports: Norman Y. Mineta San José International Airport (SJC), San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and Oakland International Airport (OAK). Students can also take Amtrak or public transit to get to campus.

Students attending Capitol Debate’s summer camp at SJSU will reside in Campus Village, Building B. Dorm rooms include a shared living area, 2 bathrooms, a full kitchen with a stove, an oven, a microwave and a full-size refrigerator.

Campus Village is located on the southeast corner of campus and is a short walk to downtown San José. Included in Campus Village is:

  • Village Market, which offers pizza, coffee, ice cream and drinks
  • Cable TV
  • High-speed Internet with Wi-Fi in the first floor Resident Activity Center (RAC)
  • On-site laundry facility
  • The RAC also includes a gaming area with air hockey, ping pong and pool.

Capitol Debate students will join for breakfast, lunch and dinner at Dining Commons, which offers numerous options from Mexican and Italian to fresh fruits and vegetables.

Safety and Security

Capitol Debate at San Jose State University will have a nurse available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, housed in the main residential hall. The school’s campus is one of the safest in the city, and those safety measures will be extended fully to our students. The main lobby of Joe West Hall, which is adjacent to Dining Commons and just a few steps from Campus

Village, is staffed with a member of SJSU’s residential staff, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The University’s campus police and emergency services are on call around the clock and can respond rapidly to any issues.
