Teaching public speaking, persuasion, presentation skills and confidence through the art of debate
The University of Denver is a coeducational, four-year university in Denver, Colorado. Founded in 1864, it is the oldest independent private university in the Rocky Mountain Region of the United States. The 125-acre main campus is a designated arboretum and is located primarily about seven miles south of downtown Denver. Founded on March 3, 1864, the first buildings of the university were located in downtown Denver but concerns that Denver's rough-and-tumble frontier town atmosphere was not conducive to education prompted a relocation to the current campus, built on the donated land of a potato farmer.
The goal of our day camps is to teach debate students the basics of argument and develop communication skills, problem-solving abilities, critical thinking, and increased self-esteem. They are not as rigorous as our corresponding overnight academic camps, so they are the perfect opening for new debaters. Complete description »

Our parents will tell you themselves that they proudly stand by their investment in Capitol Debate because of the impact it has had on their families.
Capitol Debate was my first debate experience and I think it provided a great gateway to my future debate career. The activities were great, the community was great, the material was great, the residential provisions were great, everything was solid in general. 10/10 would go again.
I love Capitol debate. It is such a great opportunity to learn more and meet new people.
Teenagers are naturally looking for opportunities to be heard. Give them the skills to think critically and debate coherently, so they can learn to think for themselves and argue for their own rights. Since we are not involved in any debate club or team during the school year, doing a camp like this is desirable.
Capitol Debate was only the second time I had ever been away from home and I was very apprehensive at first. However I immediately felt at home as soon as I stepped through my dorm room and that feeling continued throughout my entire two week stay. From four square to water parks I had so much fun and I made many great friends. I learned so much and not only did I improve as a student and debater, I became a better person. Capitol Debate has really worked hard to provide a great experience to campers and it reflected in everything we did. I am so glad I attended this camp and I am looking forward to many more times!!
Capitol Debate has taught me how to strengthen my arguments in essays and persuasive papers. They also helped me learn to have a stronger voice in the community. Great camp
As a teacher in a public school, you get to teach a wide variety of students with varying interests and various intelligence. Unfortunately, being “smart” is not “cool” which is short-sighted and naive. At Capitol, it’s embraced and encouraged by the campers and the staff. We need more intelligent, educated young people
Great place to be introduced to the fundamentals of debate.
Capitol Debate has taught me a lot, and gave me the voice to make a difference in my life, other individuals lives, and my family's life. Thank you for giving me the tools to make an impact to all those around me.
My son enjoyed both the academic challenge and the social activities. While preparing for his final debates, he was supported by an excellent, knowledgeable staff and a community of other campers who had similar goals and interests. The camp staff pays close attention to the campers' needs. They organize the campers' days carefully to encourage both academic learning and fun, social interaction. This high degree of organization and the staff's compassionate attention was key to making my son's camp experience a success.
I was a beginner debater. I knew a bit, but not a lot. This camp is very engaging, as well as very interesting. The lectures were informative, and the practice was helpful, too. It requires time and effort, as debate does, but there is enough time for fun. Dinner was enough time to sociailize. I recommend being a resident, as you can make friends with your dormmates, I certainly did. And after 8, it can be the most fun parts of camp. But you need to work hard, so you have to be willing to put in the effort and try hard. The most successful students here were the ones that worked hard, and the ones that practiced and took the time to ask questions. You must also take suggestions, and listen to your peers. At the end of the day, you want to win the tournament, you want to debate like no tomorrow, but for a beginner, and for me, the main goal was to prove to myself that I could be a good debater and speaker, and that regardless of wins or losses, I would learn and take suggestions, improve on myself, and take losses. I wanted to debate, and Capitol Debate gave that to me in twelve days i won't forget.
