Founded in 1867, Drew University is a private university located in Madison, New Jersey. Drew has been nicknamed the "University in the Forest" because of the serenity of its beautiful wooded 186-acre campus in a thriving small town close to New York City. Like Capitol Debate, Drew University is dedicated to exceptional faculty mentorship, a commitment to connecting the campus with the community and a focus on experiential learning. Drew University is home to Nobel Prize Winners and several international semester programs.
Residential Campers will be staying in the beautiful Haselton Hall, which is 1 of the 4 building making up the HERB complex. Each building is air conditioned and students will have access to laundry facilities within Haselton Hall. Both Residential and Commuter campers will be enjoying their meals at the Treeline Dining at Drew, pricing wonderful options for breakfast, lunch and dinner on campus. Our campers will be learning in the campus Learning Center as well as in the Seminary Hall, which was constructed in 1898 and was originally an anonymous gift to the University.
We cannot wait to start another great summer at Drew University and we look forward to meeting everyone this summer.
Not only will Capitol Debate students learn new skills through our programs; they will feel an increase in self-worth, learn critical thinking skills and improve public speaking and communication skills with their peers. Two weeks at camp will result in lifelong friendships and memories that will resonate with our students throughout their academic, personal and professional careers. Campers return to our program year after year because of how life-changing our Summer Debate Camps prove to be. Our parents will tell you themselves that they proudly stand by their investment in Capitol Debate because of the impact it has had on their families.
My son enjoyed both the academic challenge and the social activities. While preparing for his final debates, he was supported by an excellent, knowledgeable staff and a community of other campers who had similar goals and interests. The camp staff pays close attention to the campers' needs. They organize the campers' days carefully to encourage both academic learning and fun, social interaction. This high degree of organization and the staff's compassionate attention was key to making my son's camp experience a success.
Capitol Debate changed my life! I learned so much about debate and met many new friends! It was the greatest camp ever!
Best place for beginners and experienced debaters alike. They motivate the students to come out of their shell. Students learn to do research, coherently write their arguments, and present effectively within 2 weeks. This is a great achievement particularly for a beginner.
Capitol-Debate is the best place a child could be in the summer. Notice changes in her speech, discussions and was talking of taking up career goals in public speaking. Sure way to boost the child's confidence in speaking and interaction.
This camp provides a good balance of fun and academics. My son learned a lot, made new friends, and would recommend this camp to others. The residential facilities at Babson are very nice and the staff is very caring.
My daughter enjoyed the camp as it provided instructions and activities during the day to build a strong foundation for debate and had tons of fun activities in the evening!!
This camp made me a better speaker, better person, and a better student. I'm sure I will go into my next year of school better equipped to succeed. The camp also sparked in me the desire to improve my debate skills.
We have two boys who attended camp for several years and have not only had a blast but come home each time as better men. They are growing up before our eyes and have gained confidence, independence, communication & writing skills and a love for debating. They work hard & play hard. They have lots of freedom in a safe environment and have maintained several friendships outside of camp. The various extracurricular activities (sports, movies and field trips) make for a nice balance & provided them with the break they needed.
Capitol Debate has the perfect balance of learning and fun. Debate skills apply to all areas of study. Learning to research a topic, present arguments and speak convincingly are all valuable skills. However, while Capitol Debate emphasizes all of these skills, there are plenty of opportunities to socialize and celebrate. The staff at CD is impressive and invested in each camper's success. Capitol Debate has changed my daughter's life. Her confidence has blossomed. She has a keen awareness of current events and constitutional rights. Additionally, she has new friends throughout the country.
One of the best learning experiences. I truly had the summer of a lifetime.
