Public Speaking & Debate Camp

Our Summer Public Speaking & Debate Camps for High School and Middle School students teaches the key processes of public speaking and effective argumentation, enabling students to develop core presentation and debating skills that boost confidence and self-esteem. We work on debate case construction, composing briefs, research, rebuttals, cross-fire, evidence analysis, and summary and final focus. Students leave the academic camp with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience needed to excel in life.

Summer Camp Experience

Not only will Capitol Debate students learn debating skills through our programs; they will feel an increase in self-worth, learn critical thinking skills and improve public speaking and communication skills with their peers. Two weeks at camp will result in lifelong friendships and memories that will resonate with our students throughout their academic, personal and professional careers.

Campus Information

For Summer 2017, Capitol Debate is proud to announce the grand opening of its first camp north of the border at The University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada.

The University of British Columbia is a global center for research and teaching, consistently ranked among the top 20 public universities in the world. Founded in 1908 as the McGill University College of British Columbia, the University adopted its current name in 1915 and is British Columbia’s oldest institution of higher learning. Like Capitol Debate, UBC has embraced innovation and encourages students, staff, and faculty to lead discovery and explore new ways of learning with the goal of developing leaders with ideas that can change the world. UBC faculty, alumni, and researchers have received seven Nobel Prizes, 69 Rhodes Scholarships, 65 Olympic medals and 208 fellowships to the Royal Society of Canada. The university has also educated three Canadian prime ministers.
Students will be housed in the comfort Totem Park Residence.
Capitol Debate is excited to expand into Canada and hold it’s Public Forum Debate Camp at the prestigious University of British Columbia.

Please Note: Capitol Debate does not provide pick up or drop off services at local airports for parents or campers. All travel arrangements must be made individually by those attending the camp. For information, directions, recommendations, and safety tips in connection with transport to and from the camp location, please see the local transit authority website in the city in which your student is attending camp. You may also find good information on the ‘Contact Us’ or ‘Visiting the Campus’ page on the college campus website where your student will be attending camp.

Fun Outing Field Trip | 5th Day of Camp

About one-third of the way through camp students will have the opportunity to enjoy a trip off campus. This is an excellent opportunity for students to connect with their peers and counselors outside of the walls of the school. Students will have a chance to take this trip at their own pace since there’s something for everyone.

Cancellation Policy: All payments are nonrefundable. Should cancellation be necessary, full credit will be provided up to 1 year from the date of the event, if written notice of cancellation is provided prior to May 1st for camps and at least two weeks for other programs. Any add-ons, tournament or fees paid cannot be refunded and are non-transferrable. Summer camp cancellations received after May 1st or programs cancellations after two weeks prior to program starting must also be made in writing and will follow the below schedule for applicable credit to your account.

  • After May 1 | 85% credit
  • 30 - 22 days before start date | 70% credit
  • 21 - 8 days before start date | 60% credit
  • 7 - 4 days before start date | 50% credit
  • 3 - 1 day before start date | 25% credit
  • No Show | 0 credit
    Other programs cancellation credit timetable:
  • Two weeks before program start | 100% credit
  • Within two weeks before program start | 50% credit
  • Day of or No Show | 0% credit

Trip / Cancellation Insurance: Trip and/or Cancellation Insurance can be purchased through a 3rd party provider such as or Plans range in cost from $20 to $285 and can protect your investment in various ways from lost luggage or missed connection compensation to cancellation for any reason with 70% - 100% refund options. Most plans require enrollment on or before the final payment is made for your trip so please be sure to look into these available options today.
