We love to celebrate the valued members of our corporate headquarters team! This month, we are excited to introduce you to Marketing and Student Services Associate Diana. Read our interview below to get to know this standout team member!

What is your debate background?

I started debating in high school. I loved everything-the team, the activity, the friends I made.

What kept you coming back to debate?

I came from a really special program and I wanted other kids to get the same opportunity and experience I was fortunate enough to have. My high school team was really close and we still are to this day. We were a fairly unique team because we were probably one of the only debate teams made of primarily students of color.

We were all from public schools, so it took a lot of hard work for us to travel the country. We were pretty successful, and made it to nationals several years in a row. Many of the people who were on my team went on to coach or advise for the team, including myself.

Tell us about your past experience working with the National Association for Urban Debate Leagues.

I made the decision to work with the National Association for Urban Debate Leagues because it is really close to where I came from; my team was initially its own urban debate league. It was great to give back to this community and it felt like a natural fit for me.

How long have you been at CD?

Since January!

What are you most excited for summer camp?

I am excited to work with new debaters and to get them excited about camp.

You recently developed and led a series of workshops in North County, CA. What was your favorite part of the workshops?

I loved the chance to work with the kids, they were all so exciting, interesting and funny.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I love to camp! We used to go to Redwoods all the time.
